Botulinum Toxin Type A - BOTOX
Facial expression lines are created by contractions of the underlying muscles pulling the skin together when you smile, laugh or frown. An injectable protein, called Botox, stops nerve impulses from making the contractions. A minute quantity of the Botox protein is very precisely injected by a physician or trained aesthetician into the wrinkle with a very tiny micro-needle. Because the needle is so fine and only a small amount of liquid is used, the pain associated with the injection is minimal.
Following treatment expression lines will remain smooth. Normal facial expressions will not be affected. We call this the “Ideal Cosmetic Procedure” because it presents dramatic results, has no side effects and is non-invasive.
You should expect to see the effects of the injection within three to four days. However, because some muscle fibers may remain active for longer, it may take seven to ten days to reach efficacy. Re-injection should be performed as the muscles appear to regain activity.

Botox In the News
The beauty industry is buzzing about Botox, the drug that can erase wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles. Since Botox was awarded FDA approval, television and magazine ads, the news media, and general conversation are all embracing Botox. Because it presents dramatic results, has no side effects and is non-invasive, it is called the “Ideal Cosmetic Procedure."
Utmost in importance is client satisfaction and we can confidently say our Botox clients are pleased with the results and the extra care they received at Encompass Medical Group. We want to pass along some very important medical facts about Botox that you won’t learn in the “Glamour” ads.
Botox Medical Facts
The Allergen Corporation is the chief supplier of Botox. Allergen, Inc., headquartered in Irvine, California, is a global health care company providing eye care and specialty pharmaceutical products worldwide. Botox solution comes with 1) specific dilution instructions for maximum effect; 2) recommended treatment areas and placement protocols, and 3) recommended initial amounts of solution at each treatment location. Many providers of Botox injections do not follow these dictated directions. At Encompass Medical Group we follow allergen recommendations to the letter.
There are three specific locations for Botox injections – crows feet, glabellar furrows and forehead wrinkles. The solution will work effectively on wrinkles from the cheekbone up – it will not help sagging skin. Beware of ads stating Botox corrects anything other than these three areas.
Also take note of ads that may say for example, “Each treatment $125.” This would mean each injection site, not the entire process. It may also follow that the dilution ratio is less than recommended and the results will not last as long.
Botox Information
Besides Botox making skin look younger and smoother, doctors say it's one of the most promising treatments for a variety of ailments. Studies have found that Botox may help ease migraines, reduce back pain, soothe facial tics and even ease symptoms of cerebral palsy. Recent studies have shown improvement in ‘hypo-hydrous’ or excessive under arm and palm sweating. In fact, it has been studied for the treatment of 25 different afflictions and, in many cases, has become the most effective therapy available. "The expansion of Botox use is staggering," says Joseph Jankovic, M.D., director of the Movement Disorder Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston.
What you need to know
A slight headache may persist for a few hours following injections. A numbing cream may be requested to dull the prick from the needle. Ice may be applied at the sites following the injections There will be a slight bump at the injection sites(s) for several hours. It is important to remain erect for 2-4 hours following injections. Treatments are equally effective on men and women. Do not touch the injections site(s).
Encompass Medical Group Botox
The positive effects and cost of Botox depend on several factors:
- The number of furrows
- The overall size of the area
- Personal muscular structure
- Personal genetic makeup
- Personal mannerisms – how much facial action occurs
Encompass Medical Group charts each injection site, the amount and dilution ratio of solution used and the immediate and eventual results. Relative to the factors mentioned above, each person’s results are very individualized. The idea of having injections at a Botox party from an inexperienced person is quite frightening to the staff of Encompass Medical Group!
